Birthplace of “Vinho Verde” which means “green wine” or young wine. Although many of these wines are usually drunk young, Portugal’s Alvarinho grape can produce stunning long-lived wines.
Although red “Vinho Verde” does exist, the vast majority of wines produced are white. Generally a low alcohol wine (usually somewhere around 9%) that often has a slight spritz.
Wines are generally light, fresh with natural high acidity and minerality with floral and fruity aromas.
Main white grapes: Alvarinho, Arinto, Loureiro, Trajadura Main red grapes: Vinhão.
